Glider Pylon Racing Explained.

FAI F3F

Often overlooked the glider classes are still extremely fast. The International class F3F models fly incredibly fast. I have a video clip of a glider doing 232mph in circuits getting faster and at no time is there any power other than mother nature. (Probably the most power you can ever use) F3F speeds are approximately 80mph however and again 10 laps are completed just like IC Pylon. The models are normally around 2.7m wingspan and fly inches from the slope or cliff face. So another FAI class not for the faint hearted.

Slope Pylon

Flown with 60inch models usually 4 at a time on the side of a slope or cliff. I had the pleasure of flying in the first official 60inch event held by BARCS in the Welsh mountains many many years ago. It was great fun then and is going strong now.

Models tend to be made of Foam so they bounce well as Midair's tend to be common and sometimes tactical, Allegedly!!!!
