Hi Race fans, we are back after a long wet old winter and kicked the first F5D event off of 2010 in beautiful sunshine and with full size gliders circling all around us catching thermals all day.

RAF Wittering is the venue for most of the F5D & F3D events of 2010 and we are very grateful to the local RAF club for getting us on their site.

Out of the expected/hoped 9 F5D entries 6 mad fools turned up at 8.30am Sunday morning to join the 9 F3D entries to erect the Pylons and at 10.00 Barry Lever the F3D God had us all sat at the bases Marshalling for the noisy smelly IC guys that started the day. Bruce I and Ben J had some great wingtip to wingtip races that kept us happy at set the standard as both did 60 second runs.

By 11.30 it was F5D’s turn to race and first up was the boys Ollie and Joe. Unfortunately Joe had some teething problems leaving Ollie to race on his own and very quick and smooth he was. Unfortunately I think he was under the impression the number 1 pylon was nearer than it actually was as he seemed reluctant to fly round it thus giving him the first 200 of the day.

Next up was Darron R and Myself and as soon as the flag dropped Darron was off and very fast. I am sure he won’t mind me saying that last year it was not unusual for me to lap him but this year he wants revenge as by the 4th or 5th lap I could see he was gaining on me and I was not hanging about. Result First blood to Darron.

The Third heat consisted of our FNG (Flipping new guy) John H and a return of last year’s new guy Tony W. John is using a Jibe2 and Tony Jibe 1’s and both are going very well.

By the end of the 3rd Round Darron had kicked my Butt twice and got me so mad I pulled off a new British Record of 60.91 in the 3rd round trying to just stay ahead of him but his lead was still big from the previous two heats so I sat in 2nd and Tony was looking good in 3rd place which was pretty well how it stayed till the end.

Unfortunately Joe’s tech problems kept him grounded and Ollie had a rather firm coming together with the Ground ending his day in a bad way. John H broke the 100 barrier and in a first meeting should be very pleased with himself, however the person with the biggest smile was Darron who won by a mile.

Roll on May and the 2nd league event.

Cheers

Rob
